Dr. Emily Sheldon

Dr. Sheldon is a board-certified psychiatrist practicing in Denver, CO, but this is not where her story started. Her first job experience after earning an undergraduate degree was as a special education teacher in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. Dr. Sheldon then decided to open a new chapter for herself by further pursuing her education in the medical field.

 

She completed her medical training at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, graduating in 2008, and then completed a general adult psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado in Denver, finishing in 2014. During residency, Dr. Sheldon participated in training which included inpatient as well as outpatient psychiatric diagnosis and medication management and outpatient therapy. She sought specialized training in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and perinatal psychiatric treatment.

 

After completing residency training, Dr. Sheldon worked in community mental health for Denver County for over a decade treating a wide range of people. Within this work, she further developed her skill set in making accurate diagnoses and creating medication management plans for all mental health diagnoses. She values a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach involving therapists, healthcare providers, and family.

 

Dr. Sheldon has completed many hours of continuing medical education focused on women’s mental health. She has a special interest in helping women with mental health needs through the many chapters of their lives including the peripartum period. She feels she brings both her educational background as well as personal life experience as a working wife and mother herself to this important work.

 

When she is not working, Dr. Sheldon values time with her family, walking her dog, curling up with one of her cats and a good book, traveling, and sharing a meal with friends.
